This error message can occur in 3 difference scenarios:

These options are available in XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7

Protexis may be disabled

1. Hold down both the Windows and the 'R' key
2. Type: services.msc in the run box and hit the Enter key
3. Scroll down to Protexis licensing V2 in the services list
4. Double click on Protexis Licensing V2 to open up the properties box
5. Make sure that Protexis Licensing V2 is started and the Statup type is set to Automatic
6. Click on Apply and OK



PaintShop Pro could be running in compatibility mode

1. Right click on the PaintShop Pro desktop icon
2. Select Properties in the drop down menu
3. Select the compatibility tab
4. Make sure there are absolutely no checkmarks in any of the option boxesClick Apply and OK


Program folder is missing
- X5: a "PaintShop Pro" folder
- X4: a "PaintShop Pro" folder
- X3: a "PaintShop Photo Pro" folder
- X2: a "Paint Shop Pro Photo X2" folder

in the following locations for each operating system:

1. Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Corel

2. Windows Vista:
C:\Program Data\Corel*

3. Windows 7:
C:\Program Data\Corel*

* "All Users\Application Data" have been moved to "Program Data" under Windws Vista and Windows 7. To enable view, please go to Start | Control Panel | Folder options | View and enable "Show hidden files and folder".

If you do not have the mentioned folder for your version in All Users\Application Data or Program Data, please make sure that you have full adminstrative access on your computer and remove and reinstall PSP by following the instrcutions, see Knowledgebase.
