How to Modify the WordPerfect 9 Pleading Template to Incorporate Amended California Rulings

As of 1/1/99 the Municipal and Superior Courts of Los Angeles changed the format of all pleadings. The new format involves placing, below the page number, a title or description of the document, separated from the rest of the doc by a horizontal rule (line).t

The format change involves creating an entirely new template with a footer that includes the page number, a horizontal line and space for the description or title of the document.f

Steps to edit:

1. Click File | New From Project | Options | Create WP Template

2. Click Tools | Macro | Play | PLEADING.WCM

3. Click Pg Numbers

4. Change the Position to No Page Numbering. Click OK.

5. Click Margins.

6. Change the Bottom margin to 1". Click OK.

7. At this point, modify the other pleading settings as necessary. ie.: Changing the amount of lines on the right or left hand side of the margin, changes to font size/type. Do NOT make the bottom margin less than 1" or insert any page numbering.

8. When all editing is complete, click OK to dismiss the Pleading Paper dialog box.

9. Click Format | Margins | Bottom.

10. Change the bottom margin to 0.5". Click OK.

11. Click Insert | Header / Footer | Footer B | Create

12. Click on the icon labeled "Header / Footer Distance" and set the distance to 0.1". Click OK.

13. Click Format | Justification | Center

14. Click Format | Page | Insert Page Number

15. Select "Page 1,2,3,... 1"

16. Click Insert. Click close.

17. After inserting the page number in the footer press ENTER.

18. Click Insert | Line | Custom Line

19. Keep the Default Setting for Horizontal Line. Change the Length of the line from 6.50" to 3.50" or desired length.

20. After inserting the horizontal line in the footer press ENTER.

21. Click the icon on the property bar labeled "Close".

22. Click File | Save. Give the template a descriptive name and file name such as "California Pleading Paper". Click OK.

23. Click File | Close

Steps to use:

1. When creating the template click File | New From Project.

2. Select the Legal category from the drop down list.

3. Select the "California Pleading Paper" template.

4. Click Create

5. To insert the Document Title or Description, you need to create the other footer (footer a).

6. Click Insert | Header/Footer | Footer A | Create

7. Adjust the alignment as necessary and type in the title or description of the document, make sure you are using the same font as you used to create the original footer or it may not line up correctly.
