Painter- Memory Issue
Article ID: 206451
Revision Date: June 20, 2001

The information in this document applies to:
Painter 5.5 Mac

On systems with more than 500mb of RAM when launching painter 6 get error messages;

1) "Tiles: Out of Tiles"

2) can't open PAINTER.SETm

This is due to the fact that Painter only recognizes up to 500mb of RAM,

anything above that will cause this error message!!

Solution-

Windows Systems-

For those who want to limit the RAM that Win2000 uses, modify BOOT.INI

on the boot drive, create a new boot selection, add the parameter

/maxmem=xxx.

As an example, here's a copy of BOOT.INI:

[boot loader]

timeout=5

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="W2K D:\WINNT" /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="W2K D:\WINNT 1/2Gig" /fastdetect

/maxmem=500

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="W2K C:\WINDOWS" /fastdetect

Mac Solution-

Make sure that Painter is closed.

1. Locate the Painter application program icon on the hard drive.

2. Select it by clicking on it once

3. From the File menu, choose Get Info> Memory

4. Set minimum = 100mb

preferred = 350mb (this should not exceed 500mb)
