With some HDV Camcorders, if you pause the Cam and advance the video frame by frame you will lose the Video in the preview window. This is a limitation with some Cameras, if your HDV Camcorder does this; it is a device limitation and cannot be solved.
In some cases when you pause and rewind the Video frame by frame, it will rewind back approximately 2 seconds rather than a single frame. This is also a Camera limitation.
