Hotfix Available
A hotfix is now available for the VideoStudio 2023 startup issue described in this article.
If VideoStudio 2023 does not launch normally, download and install the hotfix using the instructions below.
Download the VideoStudio 2023 hotfix
How to install the hotfix
-
Make sure VideoStudio 2023 is completely closed.
-
Open Task Manager (right-click on your taskbar and select Task Manager) and select the Details tab.
-
Look for vstudio.exe.
-
If vstudio.exe is listed, right-click it and select End task.
If more than one vstudio.exe process is listed, end each one.
-
Download the hotfix ZIP file using the link above.
-
After the download is complete, right-click the ZIP file and select Extract All.
-
Open the extracted folder.
The folder contains the hotfix file:
uvDV.dll
-
Open File Explorer and navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2023
-
Locate the existing uvDV.dll file.
-
If uvDV.dll is present, rename it to:
uvDV.dll_original
Do not delete the original file.
Note: If a file named uvDV.dll_original already exists, do not overwrite it. Rename the current uvDV.dll to another backup name, such as uvDV.dll_backup.
-
If uvDV.dll is not present because it was previously renamed while following the temporary workaround, leave the previously renamed file unchanged and continue with the next step.
-
Copy the new uvDV.dll from the extracted hotfix folder.
-
Paste the new uvDV.dll into:
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2023
-
If Windows requests administrator permission to copy the file into this folder, select Continue.
-
Confirm that the following file is now present:
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2023\uvDV.dll
- Launch VideoStudio 2023 normally.
VideoStudio 2023 should now launch without requiring the previous procedure of temporarily renaming uvDV.dll.
If VideoStudio 2023 still does not launch after installing the hotfix, contact Corel Technical Support for further assistance.
Symptoms
Corel VideoStudio 2023 may fail to launch on some Windows 11 systems.
Reported behavior may include:
- VideoStudio does not open after it is launched.
- The Windows loading cursor may briefly appear, but the application does not start.
- VideoStudio may remain on the splash screen or appear to hang during startup.
- No error message may be displayed.
The issue has been reported by some users following recent Windows 11 updates from late August to early September 2026.
Cause
Engineering investigation has identified the issue as being related to certain Windows Media Foundation components.
During startup, VideoStudio 2023 enumerates available DV devices. On affected systems, this process can trigger a crash involving the Windows Media Foundation component mfksproxy.dll, preventing VideoStudio from launching normally.
The issue has been observed on some systems following the installation of Windows 11 update KB5120998. However, it does not occur on every system with this update installed.
The hotfix provided in this article modifies the affected VideoStudio component to prevent the startup crash.
That keeps us from implying the entirety of Windows Media Foundation is broken, while still naming the component Engineering actually identified.
Resolution
Please refer to the Hotfix steps provided at the top of the article.
