When you zip the contents of a folder, there are three ways in which you are likely to want folder information stored.
- Store subfolder information without storing the selected folder (picture)
- Store complete information, starting from the root folder (picture)
- Store the selected folder and its subfolders (picture)

Please refer to the picture of an open folder window above to understand the example pictures that follow. In each picture of the WinZip window, a Zip file has been created containing the files in the 10October folder. You can then refer to the instructions that follow to create your own Zip file with similar folder information.

How do I store folder information only for subfolders?
WinZip ribbon interface
- Start WinZip and click From PC or Cloud
- In the Add dialog, navigate to and open the folder whose contents you want to zip (10October in the example picture), and click Add
- The WinZip window will now display showing your Zip file contents; when you are done adding files, click To PC or Cloud
- Choose a location in which to save the Zip file and type a name for it
- Click Save

- Start WinZip and click Add
- In the Add dialog, navigate to and open the folder whose contents you want to zip (10October in the example picture), and click Zip
- The WinZip window will now display showing your Zip file contents; when you are done adding files, click File and choose Save
- Choose a location in which to save the Zip file and type a name for it
- Click Save
How do I store complete folder information?
WinZip ribbon interface
- Open WinZip, you should be in the Create/Share tab
- Choose Full Path Information on the Options drop down menu and click From PC or Cloud
- In the Add dialog, navigate to and open the folder whose contents you want to zip (10October in the example picture), and click Add
- The WinZip window will now display showing your Zip file contents; when you are done adding files, click To PC or Cloud
- Choose a location in which to save the Zip file and type a name for it
- Click Save
Legacy menus/toolbar
- Start WinZip and click Add
- In the Add dialog, navigate to and open the folder whose contents you want to zip (10October in the example picture)
- Click More Options, check the box next to Save full path info, and click OK
- Click Zip
- The WinZip window will now display showing your Zip file contents; when you are done adding files, click File and choose Save
- Choose a location in which to save the Zip file and type a name for it
- Click Save
How do I store folder information for the selected folder and its subfolders
WinZip ribbon interface
Note: The Full Path Information setting in the Include drop down menu should not be selected when following these steps.
- Start WinZip and click From PC or Cloud
- In the Add dialog, navigate to and open the parent folder of the folder you want to zip (Letters)
- Click the folder you want to add to select it (10October) and click Add
- The WinZip window will now display showing your Zip file contents; when you are done adding files, click To PC or Cloud
- Choose a location in which to save the Zip file and type a name for it
- Click Save

- Start WinZip and click Add
- In the Add dialog, navigate to and open the parent folder of the folder you want to zip (Letters)
- Click the folder you want to add to select it (10October)
- Click Zip
- The WinZip window will now display showing your Zip file contents; when you are done adding files, click File and choose Save
- Choose a location in which to save the Zip file and type a name for it
- Click Save
Another option, the context menu method, will work with all operating systems and WinZip versions.
- Open a folder window, navigate to, and open the parent folder of the one you want to zip (Letters)
- Right click the folder you want to zip (10October), and choose Add to Zip file from the WinZip context menu
- Make sure that Save full path info is not checked and click Add
Note: With the context menu, as described above, you will also get the same results if you click Zip and Share (WinZip Express), provided you have installed the WinZip Express for Explorer add-on.
