Here is how to fix the error: "The file does not contain a bitmap" when trying to open any file in PaintShop Pro.

Please note that folder names are different depending on the version you use.

PSPX2: Paint Shop Pro Photo
PSPX3: PaintShop Photo Pro
PSPX4: Corel PaintShop Pro

The following steps are recommended to solve the problem:

STEP 1: Reset the workspace by holding down the Shift key and launch PaintShop Pro. You will be asked to overwrite the workspace. Click on OK.

If step 1 does not resolve the issue, then continue:

STEP 2: Go to Start - Run (XP) or Search field (Vista/Windows 7) and type %appdata%. Hit the Enter key. Open the Corel folder and rename your version of PaintShop Pro to "PaintShop Pro old".

STEP 3: Go to Start - Run (XP) or Search field (Vista/Windows 7) and type regedit. Hit the Enter key. Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel and rename your version of PaintShop Pro to "PaintShop Pro old".

STEP 3: Go to

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR NAME\Local Settings\Application Data
Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local

and look for the Corel folder respectively the Corel PaintShop Pro folder, depending which version of PaintShop Pro you have, and rename it to "PaintShop Proold".

You should be nowable to open files properly again.
