Symptoms
CorelDRAW becomes unresponsive or freezes when you try to print a document using the Print command (Ctrl+P).
Cause
This issue is often caused by a conflict with a corrupt or outdated printer driver, particularly the one set as your default printer. When CorelDRAW attempts to connect to the Windows Print Subsystem, the driver fails to respond, causing the application to hang.
Resolution
By temporarily switching your default printer to a generic, software-based one like "Microsoft Print to PDF," you can isolate whether the issue is with CorelDRAW itself or with your specific printer's driver.
Steps:
-
Open Windows Settings:
-
Press the Windows key + I on your keyboard.
-
Alternatively, click the Start button and select the Settings gear icon.
-
-
Navigate to Printers & Scanners:
-
In the Settings window, select Bluetooth & devices from the left sidebar.
-
Click on Printers & scanners.
-
-
Manage Default Printer:
-
Find the setting "Let Windows manage my default printer" and ensure that it is toggled OFF.
-
-
Set a Temporary Default:
-
In the list of printers, click on "Microsoft Print to PDF."
-
Click the "Set as default" button.
-
Test the Application
-
Open CorelDRAW and a document you have had trouble with.
-
Try using the Ctrl+P command.
Analyze the Results
If the problem is resolved (CorelDRAW no longer hangs): This indicates that the original printer's driver is the cause of the conflict.
-
Next Step: Reinstall or update the driver for your original printer. You can find the latest drivers on the printer manufacturer's website.
If the problem persists (CorelDRAW still hangs): This means the issue is not related to a specific printer driver. The problem may be with CorelDRAW's installation or another system-wide conflict.
-
Next Step: Please try other troubleshooting steps such as resetting the workspace (hold F8 while launching CorelDRAW), repairing the installation, or doing a clean installation. If the problem continues, contact Corel Technical Support with a detailed description of your issue and the steps you have taken.
