How to output to tape in Studio

Section 1: Digital Output

Step 1: Output Settings for Digital

Make sure that the output settings are correct. In the Make Movie mode, select the Tape tab. There are two settings that must be set correctly.

  • Output Type
  • Device


For output to a digital camcorder select DV Camcorder. Once this is selected, the available digital output devices will be selectable. See the following image where the Sony DV Device is selected.

Step 2: Render the Project

Once the output settings are correct, the project needs to be rendered. Click the green Create button to begin. Once this has finished the status window will report that you are ready for output. See the following image:

Step 3: Output to Tape

  • Have the tape ready in the destination device that you wish to record to.
  • Make sure that the camera is connected and powered on.
  • Make sure that the camera is in the correct mode. This may vary based on the camcorder, but common modes are Play, VCR, or VTR.
  • Click the Play button on the player window to output to your destination device.


Section 2: Analog Output

Step 1: Output Settings for Analog

Make sure that the output settings are correct. In the Make Movie mode, select the Tape tab. There are two settings that must be set correctly.

  • Output Type
  • Device


For analog output select Analog Video Out. Once this is selected, the available analog output devices will be selectable. See the following image where the Pinnacle 710-USB is selected.

Step 2: Render the Project

Once the output settings are correct, the project needs to be rendered. Click the green Create button to begin. Once this has finished the status window will report that you are ready for output. See the following image:

Step 3: Output to Tape

  • Have the tape ready in the destination device that you wish to record to.
  • Make sure your cabling is correct. It should be from the Outputs of the output device to the Inputs of the destination device.
  • If outputting to a VCR make sure that it is the correct Line In or Video In mode. Consult your users manual for more information if needed.
  • Click the Play button on the player window and press record on your destination device.
