How to Combine Projects in Studio 14/15

There are two ways you can combine your project.

  1. Use Copy/Paste to move project content
  2. Export the project as a file and add the new file to another project.

Option 1: Use Copy/Paste to move project content

To do this, follow these steps.

1: Open with the project you want to copy. Make sure that the project you are copying from has a name that you gave it. It cannot have a Studio generated name such as My Movie 1.stx. If the project has a Studio generated name yet, go to File > Save as and give the project a custom name.

2: Mouse over the project name on the top of the project timeline and note the project settings that appear in the tooltip. Specifically, make sure you note the frame rate (29.97, 25, etc.).

3: Select the portion of the project you want to copy or press CTRL-A to select the entire project. Then right-click and select Copy or press CRTL-C to copy.

4: If the project you want to copy to has the same frame rate you noted in Step 2, open that project and you should be able to now paste the copied content either by selecting CTRL-V or by right-clicking and selecting Paste in the timeline.

5. If the project you want to copy to does not have the same frame rate as you noted in Step 2, you must create a new project with the proper settings. To do this go to Setup > Project preferences. In the Project Format section select “Use this format for new projects”. Select a format that matches the frame rate from your other project. (Note: 30p and 60i projects both use 29.97 fps. 25p and 50i projects use 25 fps. You can copy and paste between these project types since their frame rate is the same). Once this is set, go to File > New Project.

6: You should be able to now paste the copied content either by selecting CTRL-V or by right-clicking and selecting Paste in the timeline.

Option 2: Export the project as a file and add the new file to another project.

1: With this method you can start with either project. Remove any menus because they will become part of the video when you render it to a file.

2: Go to make move, chose file and select MPEG 2 DVD compatible. (Assuming you will make a DVD of the two projects, if not chose the format that best suits your project needs.)

3: Once the file is done rendering, open the project you want to combine the file with.

4: Use the folder icon to browse the video tab to the location of your project that is now a file.

5: Once it is done detecting scenes drag them down to the timeline.
