Painter 2016: Thumbnails and file assocaitions with .rif files are not correct when installing Painter 2016 on a system with Painter2015

This is caused but a conflict collision in the Windows Registry for the RIF file type.

 

  1. Open the Windows Registry
   a. In Windows 10 or Windows 8.1, right-click or tap-and-hold the Start button and then choose Run. Prior to Windows 8.1, Run is most easily available from the Apps screen.   b. In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click on Start.   c. In Windows XP, click on the Start button and then click Run....
  1. In the search box, or Run window, type the following: Regedit and then press Enter.
  2. Registry Editor will open.
  3. Click File, then Export and save a copy of your registry

  1. Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
  2. Scroll down and locate .rif
  3. Right Click .rif key and choose delete
  4. Close the Registry
  5. Open Windows Explorer and locate a RIF File
  6. Right click on a RIFF file Then choose Properties
  7. Click on the [Change Change] Button
  8. You’ll will see two options, both for Painter 2016. One “Keep using Painter 2016” and below it, another “Painter 2016”. Select the second one.
