Symptoms
Corel VideoStudio 2023 may fail to launch on some Windows 11 systems.
Reported behavior may include:
- VideoStudio does not open after it is launched.
- The Windows loading cursor may briefly appear, but the application does not start.
- VideoStudio may remain on the splash screen or appear to hang during startup.
- No error message may be displayed.
The issue has been reported by some users following recent Windows 11 updates from late August to early September 2026.
Cause
The exact cause is currently under investigation.
In several reported cases, the behavior has been associated with Windows 11 update KB5120998.
Testing on affected systems has also shown that the startup failure may occur while VideoStudio is loading or initializing the uvDV.dll program component. On some affected systems, temporarily renaming uvDV.dll allows VideoStudio to launch. However, this should be used for diagnostic isolation only. While the file remains renamed, PROJECT playback and related editing functions may not work correctly, and VideoStudio may freeze or close when playback is started.
However, this behavior has not been reproduced on all systems with KB5120998 installed, and the presence of the update alone does not confirm that a VideoStudio startup problem is related to this issue.
Resolution
First, install all currently available Windows updates and restart the computer.
Microsoft has released a newer Windows update, KB5124008. If this update is available for your system, install it and restart Windows before testing VideoStudio again.
After restarting:
- Launch VideoStudio 2023.
- Check whether the application opens normally.
If VideoStudio still does not launch, please contact Corel Technical Support for further assistance.
Support may request additional system information and diagnostic data to determine whether your issue is related to the problem currently under investigation.
Do not delete, download, or replace the uvDV.dll file. If Technical Support asks you to perform a temporary uvDV.dll diagnostic test, restore the file to its original name immediately after the test.
