WARNING: THIS PROCEDURE MIGHT CAUSE ANY OTHER ROXIO OR ADAPTEC SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON THE PC TO BECOME INOPERABLE. PLEASE UNINSTALL ANY OTHER ROXIO OR ADAPTEC SOFTWARE FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE LISTED PROCEDURE.
1. Create a System Restore Point
- Click on the Start button, then select All Programs -->Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore
- Make sure there is a dot beside Create a restore point, then click Next
- When prompted for a restore point description type Before Roxio Troubleshooting --> Create
- Click Close
2. Remove Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 from Add/Remove Programs
- Click on the Start --> Setting --> Control Panel
- Double click on the Add/Remove programs icon
- Uninstall Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6, if prompted choose No to reboot the PC
- Then click the "X" in the top right hand corner of the Window to close the control panel
3. Removing Directories from your Hard Drive
NOTE: All directories stated might not be found
- Click on the Start , then right click on the My Computer --> Open
- Double click on the icon for the Local Disk that the software was installed to
- Double click on the Program Files folder
- Locate the Roxio and Adaptec folders, right click on each folder and choose Delete
- Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files folder, locate the Roxio Shared and Adaptec Shared folders, right click on each folder and choose Delete
- Go to C:\Program Files\Common File\InstallShield folder, locate the Engine and Iscriptfolders and rename them to "Engine.ROX" and "Iscript.ROX"
- Once all the directories are remove right click on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the window to close it
4. Rename additional files on your hard drive
NOTE: All files in the list might not be found
- Click on the Start --> Search
- Search your Local Hard disks for the following files:
* CDR4_2k.sys
* CDR4_XP.sys
* Cdr4dll.dll
* Cdr4vsd.sys
* Cdr4vsd.vxd
* Cdral.dll
* CDRALw2k.sys
* Cdrtc.dll
- If found, right click on the file and then click on ÒrenameÓ. Change the file extension to ROX (i.e. cdr4_2k.sys would be renamed to cdr4_2k.rox)
- After all files are searched for and renamed close the search window by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the window.
WARNING: THE NEXT STEPS INVOLVES EDITING YOUR SYSTEM REGISTRY. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU EXPORT YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY EDITING. EDITING YOUR REGISTRY INCORRECTLY CAN CAUSE IRREPARABLE SYSTEM DAMAGE. WE RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE EDITING YOUR REGISTRY THAT YOU SKIP THESE STEPS.
5. To export a copy of your registry, please do the following:
- Click on the Start --> Run
- Type "regedit" and click the OK button
- Locate and left click File in the upper left hand corner of the Registry Editor, then click onExport
- Choose the Desktop as the location to save the file in, and name the file "regbackup"
- Also ensure that under the Export Range section there is a dot beside All
- Click on the Save button
- Your registry should now be backed up to a file named regbackup.reg on your desktop.
6. Remove the Roxio and Adaptec registry entries
7. To export a copy of your registry, please do the following:
- Double click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder, this will expand the folder
- Double click on the Software folder, this will expand the folder
- Locate the Roxio and Adaptec folders, right click each folder and click on Delete
- If prompted to confirm the delete click the Yes button
- Minimize the open folders by clicking on the minus sign beside the Software folder then the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder
- Double click on the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder, this will expand the folder
- Double click on the Software folder, this will expand the folder
- Locate the Roxio and Adaptec folders, right click on each folder and click on Delete
- If prompted to confirm the delete click the Yes button
- Minimize the open folders by clicking on the minus sign beside the Software folder then the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder
8. Remove the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values:
- Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)
- Expand the SYSTEM Key
- Expand the CurrentControlSet Key
- Expand the Control Key
- Expand the Class Key
- Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
- High light this key by left clicking once on it
- On the right hand side you are looking for UpperFilters and LowerFilters under theName column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing delete
NOTE: It will be easier to use the Registry editor in the future if you collapse the keys that you expanded by double clicking the expanded key (or clicking the "-" next to them.) - Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen
9. Shut down and Reboot the PC
10. Reinstall Easy CD and DVD Creator 6
